Ah… The buzz of September has arrived… that along with celebrations, champagne and a whole lot of birthday cake! Yes today is my birthday and even though I’m away from my desk and celebrating with family and friends in London, there is never a day that goes by without something “business” related that needs to be done….and as this month always hurdles away at chronic speed, I thought I’d utilise the time on my journey between day to evening celebrations to update you with all things MJ!
It may only be the start of September, but if I don’t tell you about what’s happening nearer Christmas I think I might burst with the excitement of it all! September is by far my busiest month of the year for just about everything! Stage school enrolments are underway as the Mark Jermin Stage School (www.markjermin.co.uk) open its doors for another year of exciting projects and performances and we are so ecstatic to welcome our new comers and everything each new students can bring to the Stage School whatever their age group and experience. It is a real pleasure to see returning students grow in confidence and showing great improvement with their performing skills as they return each year for another dose of high energy classes in acting, singing and dance. With ten branches across South Wales and two schools in London, we are hoping to build on both our Musical Theatre and Acting classes this year having won a highly commended award at the recent Shell Connections festival where we worked with 15 students on a version of the play Blackout. The experience of brainstorming a modern text and coming up with a completely original concept and design was really exciting, and to get accredited by the judges was really overwhelming. This term at the Theatre school, I’m looking forward to the students honing in on their stagecraft and performance skills as well as the many festive performances and concerts the individual branches and choirs get asked to perform at… …If you’re already singing your heart out to Christmas Tunes, dancing away with anticipation or acting like it’s too soon to talk about Christmas – You’re not too late to sign up!
On the Agency side of things… it is also full swing with the festive-ness! We’ve already had tons of castings for Christmas commercials and are continued to be flooded with casting breakdowns for many more Christmas Campaigns…. We also have 2 clients penciled for the famous John Lewis advert (What will this year’s theme be I hear you ask? My lips are sealed!)
But the Christmas craziness is showing no signs of slowing up soon, as well as many of my Musical Theatre actors and actresses completing long contracts in West End Musicals before embarking on new and exciting productions in the lead up to Christmas.
And all this planning and preparation leads up to my favourite month of the year…The month of December is jam packed with all the things we love nearing Christmas….The songs, the countdown (Advent Calendar chocolates included….of course!) My favourite part is the Panto and we’ve got an amazing one for you this year with the story of Dick Whittington and his navigating cat. Following on from the amazing British success of the Olympics, the team at Jermin Productions are really going for GOLD on this year’s production. The Cast are in place and the preparations are a go go-go with final drafts of scripts being bounced back and forth between my sister and I and rehearsal schedules being organised and finalised. We are also looking forward to our first Pantomime Dancers audition session this coming Monday, for our Juvenile Dancers in a new additional Venue for the company this year: The Princess Royal Theatre Port Talbot.
