On Wednesday 6th February, an independent event as part of Swansea Pride week for 2019 officially launched and revealed its glittering cast at Swansea’s Cuban Bar and Restaurant Old Havana.
“Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor” is a Pride-inspired pop up event by Swansea Pride committee vice chair Nia Jermin and fellow committee member Mark Jermin as part of their events team: Jermin Productions
Pride in Swansea will be proudly waving its rainbow flag this May, as the Swansea Pride Committee with support from Swansea City and County Council and the Waterfront Museum host the main Pride day on Saturday 4th May. The aim to this year’s Pride is to reach a wider and more diverse audience to Swansea Pride and Jermin Productions along with an array of supporting Swansea venues will be producing a series of Pride inspired pop up events to help get the celebrations started.
The crowd at Old Havana got particularly excited about “Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor” a pride themed dance event with sequins and sparkles for Swansea which will see a whole range of LGBTQ+ and supporters of the LGBT+ Communities as contestants and LGBT+ and local dance professionals will be ‘hitting the dance floor’ this May bid to lift that all important Swansea Pride Glitter ball Trophy.
As part of the week long celebration in support of Pride right here in Swansea, the nine couples of contestants will be taking to the dance floor in the hope that they’ll be able to foxtrot their way to victory and step out as the first ever winners of Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor. Amongst those aiming to achieve a “sizzling SEVEN! Or ‘perfect ten’ are some of Swansea’s well-known, elite representing a variety of working backgrounds, all of which were revealed LIVE at the launch party event.
Amongst the contestants were The Wave Breakfast Show Hosts CLAIRE SCOTT and LEIGH JONES who, despite showcasing their perfect partnership each morning live on air, will be competing against each other in this glittering contest. Instead, Claire will be proving that her and her partner KATHRYN LANE have what it takes to beat Leigh and his partner, Swansea Sound DJ and Swansea Celebrity KEVIN JOHNS.
Joining these couples will be an S4C soap star, a local DJ, one very excited employee from Dawsons, two professional Swansea drag stars and many more supporters who have volunteered to take part in this forward thinking event. For the next twelve weeks, all contestants will be trained, rehearsed and choreographed by a range of local dance tutors, many of which run their own training schools and competing clubs.
It was an evening of sequins, salsa and surprises as each team met for the first time and also had the opportunity to meet their hosts and judges for the event, some of which you will definitely recognise. Live at Old Havana, the judging panel were announced and will include, casting guru Leigh-Ann Regan, choreographer and Principle of TDMs Mr Terry Michael, international dancer Lisa Pike Cohen and a head judge that is sure to give the evening some star quality. British actress and presenter MICHELLE COLLINS was one of many names to be revealed throughout the evening, the Eastenders star best known for her portrayal of Cindy Beale will be casting her view of the couples performance skills this May as she claims the role as Head Judge. Michelle will be sitting alongside another East end Legend and television star CHARLIE BROOKS who will be donning a sequin dress that will certainly rival her co-host Chris Norman. Charlie and Chris will be stepping out as the official 2019 hosts set to give Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly a run for their money.
Swansea certainly saw an evening of showgirls and champers which was produced by the creative team at Jermin Productions on behalf of Swansea Pride show week. Company Director Nia Jermin Rae also sits on the Pride Committee as Vice Chair in support of official Chairperson Elliot King. Together with a team of passionate, dedicated and creative committee members, they aim to bring Swansea the biggest Pride the City has ever seen and promise that this year will offer something for everyone.
This May, rather than producing one day of pride, Jermin Productions along with the Pride Committee will see a WEEK LONG celebration which will feature a range of pop-up events, the first if which launched at Old Havana on Wednesday 6th February.
