Hits the Dance Floor – The LIVE LAUNCH {19th Feb}

Last night, Jermin Productions on behalf of Swansea Pride hosted the Live Launch Party to our forthcoming Pride Event: Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor 2020

We gave the fab-u lous venue Old Havana Swansea a rainbow haven makeover as glittering guests mingled amongst the Swansea Pride Committee, Hits the Dance Floor host and drag artist: Ruby Slippers and other celebrity guests including Shaheen Jafargholi (BBC Eastenders, Casualty, Britains Got Talent) and Amy Leigh Hickman (BBC’s Our Girl, The Dumping Ground, Eastenders.)

Everyone was there to support the best pre pride dance event: Hits the Dance Floor 2020 which will take place on Friday 1st May at the Brangwyn Hall Swansea.

What is Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor?

“It’s back, the sequined spectacular Swansea Pride Dance event is counting down  “a 5, 6, 7, 8” as teams of Couples and Choreographers in support of  LGBT+ sizzle their way into Pride 2020 where Swansea Pride will be hitting the Dance Floor!

This brilliant event returns to the Brangwyn Hall on Friday 1stMay.

And the dazzling dance inspired night out will high kick our audience and cast into the Swansea Pride weekend in style for what promises to be an unmissable celebration this year!

Tickets can be purchased from the Grand Theatre Swansea or Brangwyn Hall online: 01792 457515

At last night’s launch a series of other celebrity messages was played to show the powers of Swansea who is behind Swansea Pride 2020, Messages flooded in from former Strictly Come Dancing Contestants Danny Mac, Ore Duba and Doctor Ranj as well as messages from the Cast of Coronation Street, Annabell Davis (Daughter of Warick Davis) and the Hedgehog himself from last Saturday’s The Masked Singer final: Jason Manford!

Dave Bellis from Old Havana also said of the Launch Night:

“We are thrilled to be supporting SPHTD once again for 2020. Our company across the board are LGBT+ Friendly with everyone welcome in Havana! We enjoyed the events across the spring and summer last year and are very much looking forward to the dancing event and the main Swansea Pride  event on 1st and 2nd May. We’re incredibly proud to be working alongside such an inclusive, fun and vibrant team at Swansea Pride and can’t wait to see the events unfold this year.”

Also revealed at the Live Launch party for “Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor” were the 2 hosts of the main event on 1stMay. Kevin Johns from Swansea Sound who can give fellow host Ruby Slipper some competition in the frock and heels department from his annual Panto residency will be giving his cha cha charm on the 1stMay. Both Kev and Ruby took part in last year’s event making them the perfect duo having had prime experience in this event.

And no Dance competition would be complete without a panel of expert judges. This year’s Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor will see World Dance Championship judge Andrew Simeon, West End Performer and Strictly Come Dancing Choreographer Alan Birkett, be joined by latin champion Lisa Pike Cohen and last year’s host and former “Strictly” contestant: Charlie Brooks (Janine Butcher in Eastenders, I’m a Celebrity Winner 2012) give their feedback and scores on the Dance floor!

Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor 2020 is just ONE of a NUMBER of pre Pride inspired events that is hopefully going to get everyone excited, in full support and driven to attend this year’s Swansea Pride Main Day event which is taking place right here in the city centre on Saturday 2ndMay.

In 2019 Swansea saw the biggest and most all-inclusive diverse Pride in its history, complete with a city centre Pride Parade, Entertainment across 2 Stages, as well as a hub of Pride Activity around the Outdoor site and National Waterfront Museum. The Swansea Pride committee led by Elliott King as Chair and Nia Jermin Rae as Vice worked tirelessly to create a diverse hub of events and activity as part of a Pride Week.

The Hits the Dance Floor event was trialled in 2019 with Michelle Collins as a Judge where Musical Theatre fan and real life partners Keith Millward and Peter Kingsbury took the Championship Trophy! They were also present at this year’s Live Launch and helped get the Pre Pride Party started.

From Nia at Jermin Productions:

“We are delighted to have another cast of amazing contestants and choreographers, all giving their time and talent to Swansea Pride. A big Thank You also to Douglas Jones Mercer for helping us put on this event and to the other businesses who have nominated couples. I am proud of every single person who is involved with the 2020 “Hits The Dance Floor”. We hope the support and hype around this event continues. Anyone can get involved and attend this year’s Swansea Pride and I’m really looking forward to this year’s Celebration!”

“Swansea Pride Hits the Dance Floor 2019” was the first of its kind , as not even the BBC in the real “Strictly Come Dancing” have ever showcased same gender and real LGBT+ couples dancing within the competition! It is only this year that first time skating couple Ian H Watkins and Matt Evers were seen on screen ice dancing together.

“We are passionate about carrying on this untraditional ball room inspired event and are welcoming anyone to take part and everyone to attend” adds Mark Jermin.
